From May-June 2022, CHC took up the careful dismantling of the dilapidated rear wing of the house. The process included gradually bringing down the roof followed by walls of the ground floor and second floor. Most of the walls and floors at the ground level were retained as they were found to be in a fairly good condition as compared to the rest of the structure. The dismantling activity posed many challenges for the team in terms of getting the local contractor team to understand the value of saving and recovering traditional material and architectural elements through a gradual process of dismantling as opposed to their usual task of demolition. The intent was to recover as much material and debris as possible for later reuse.
