Kalidas Jethabhai House - Stakeholder Consultation by Master's in Conservation and Regeneration students (Batch 2022)
First year students of the Masters in Conservation and Regeneration (MCR) program, Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University, manually documented Kalidas Jethabhai House in March 2023. The documentation was followed by assessing the structure to identify reasons for defects and possible repair solutions.Â
The CHC team helped in facilitating communication between the local stakeholders and the students, thereby allowing the students to get a better understanding of the neighbourhood. The identified stakeholders were invited by the students for a friendly discussion on-site. This exercise proved to be fruitful as residents of Dharmaj shared their memories of the building and also suggestions and ideas for adaptive reuse. The documentation, study, assessment, and stakeholder consultation together helped each student propose a strategy for conservation and also a new use for the building.
